Barack Obama says:
This decision to commute the sentence of a man who compromised our national security cements the legacy of an administration characterized by politics of cynicism and division, one that has consistently placed itself and its ideology above the law. This is exactly the kind of politics we must change so we can begin restoring the American people's faith in a government that puts the country's progress ahead of the bitter partisanship of recent years.
Libby was convicted of no such thing. But what exactly is the thing this special prosecutor was supposed to find out? Exactly what was Patrick J. Fitzgerald supposed to find that he never found and why did he end his investigation?
I think a lot of people are following Obama's rhetorical lead without having any idea what it's all about. They are making insinuations in retrospect about things they can't even prove or won't even say out loud. If Libby was protecting Cheney or Rove, what exactly was he protecting?
Bonus Question: How many pardons and commutations did Bill Clinton execute?
