One thing that The Da Vinci Code reminds us is that secrets can be kept. It really depends upon how willing you are to keep them. You may recall that in the film and the book the female protagonist inherits a key from her grandfather. It is the key to a Swiss-style bank account. How difficult is it for us to have such banking procedures here in the US? What identity is there to steal if your account number is never associated with your name on a computerized record? Surely somebody must understand this. We should have a nameless banking service.
What if your bank offered you a nameless cash account. You could use an ATM card the same way you do now, strictly as an ATM card. It would not have your name on it. It seems to me that would solve one problem of identity theft. I rather like the idea. What's wrong with it?
