This is LaShawn's idea. Cool.
1) What haven’t you done yet in your life that you’d really like to do someday? Why? Will you do any of those things in the near future? Are you making progress toward them?
My life is going in the right direction, so I don't think I have to make any wild turns in order to do what I'd really like to do. What I really want to do is be the Kung Fu Santa Claus, someone who goes around the world delivering life changing gifts of largesse or jumbo size cans of whoopass depending on the situation. I would need to be personally wealthy, and I'm pretty sure that's not in the cards. But I could be part of a philanthropic organization. I could also do it symbolically through my writing.
I have to get some career things out of the way, so I'm reserving this for semi-retirement. The progress for those starts in 15 years, God willing.
2) If you could completely start your life over from scratch, what would you do differently the second time around (if anything)? Why?
The only thing I would have changed was to study a more conservative career. I hate the obscurity and undiscipline of the cutting edge of computer science applications. I'd much rather have been an attorney or a surgeon. Even though people know jack about law or medicine, they respect it a great deal more than programming. Plus, they get paid and there's never a lack of demand for their skills. You'll never get law firms outsourced.
3) What do you think you’ll be like when you’re 70, 80, 90, possibly even 100 years old? Where do you think you’ll be living, and what activities do you think you’ll enjoy?
I'll be writing books from some secluded compound in the woods off a lake or the English Midlands. I'll have a large house and enjoy spoiling my grandchildren, and possibly even great-grandchildren. Alternatively, I'll own a jazz club in New York City and host the international cool people.
4) What ages do you think have been the best for you so far? Why? What do you think of your current age…are you enjoying it? Are you looking forward to your next birthday?
I'd have to say that my late 20s were the bomb. My best friend and I lived three blocks from the beach in Southern Cal and we gave beach parties that made us famous in the Buppie kingdom. I met my wife then. I was in the best shape of my life. Anybody who knew where the party was at in Southern Cal, knew the Golden Tale. That was our spot. My running buddies, 'The Babeless Crew' (named now for the first time in Cobb history) were the originators of the now semi-legendary 'Black Chill' as well as the Beach Bash-o-Rama. It was all, all good. I definitely have to write that book.
Today, I enjoy the deep joy of watching my children grow up. Parental pride is indescribably fulfilling. All I can do is show you this picture of all of my kids. I love being Dad and UncleMike. Birthdays schmirthdays. It's all about them.
