Olmert has dropped the requirement for an international peacekeeping force in Lebanon as a pre-condition for cessation of hostilities. Yoni finds this anathema. Israel gives up the land and Hezbollah gets peace. And so he says, this war was better off not starting than ending like this. I have to agree.
As I predicted in Peace & Pacification, that this conflict has become irresolute due to international meddling, it is not a war. It started as a war but will not end in pacification. Both sides will still be mouthing off about honor and glory long after the guns are silent, which only means they will not remain silent long enough.
Siniora suggested that the Lebanese army of 75,000 would go to Southern Lebanon in order to secure the Blue Line and incidently take back Shebaa Farms. The international component of that force, he numbered at 2,000. With this in mind, Israel certainly sees no benefit of the 'international'. Duh.
Where has the Lebanese Army been for the past three weeks? Sitting on their asses watching CNN? Sitting in the dark because they had no power?
Extraordinary!
