Cynthia McKinney is dead. Ding Dong!!
The failure of Cynthia McKinney to retain her seat in Congress is yet one more sign of the end of the era of the generation of black politicians marked by an increasingly intolerable line of obfuscation and blame of the greater society for the problems faced by African Americans. McKinney's defeat immediately reflects a smackdown of racial smackdown politics. Radical racial confrontation is out.
I wanted to get this out there very quickly even though it's not fleshed out. I expected to have done a bit more reading of Juan Williams by now, but I haven't. Instead I'm consuming Thomas Ricks. But the angle I will be taking is that this is the year, Bush having visited the more moderately led NAACP and witnessing the publication of 'Enough', that the tide will turn. Again, the capstone will be a win by Blackwell, Steele or Swann. Either of those three will mark a tipping point.
