Landis Binged
Pigilito tracks the illogic of Landis' latest excuse, that he had four whiskeys and two beers before he tested positive. Not bloody likely. I think the asshat is fitting more tightly every day.
This weekend I did a very informal poll of cyclers on the trail in the South Bay. None of them answered my question of whether they thought Landis was a fraud or not. Next time, I'll ask them when they're not riding in the opposite direction.
Monster House
Monster House is the first CG animated film for kids that actually
looks like it was directed by a Director. Not only that, I think it
does a pretty bang up job of giving us adults what we must think is a
sophisticated look at what a 12 year old mind must be up to. It's dark
but funny and scary but not creepy.
I think that it deserves saying that Monster House has characters and not a parade of stereotypes as we watch in most CG movies. It's a tight story that doesn't have to go all over the world and animate a zillion sprites to make its drama. Contrast that to just about every other CG kidflick: Robots, Over the Hedge, Anzt, A Bug's Life, Toy Story, Cars, Madagascar, Ice Age... All of those depend on a boatload of actors/characters doing the huge ensemble thing. The exception to this, I think is Shrek, although there is a big cast. Monster House characters are well-fleshed out, not just well rendered.
I think it's bound to be a Halloween classic, which is all good. We sometimes tire of Tim Burton and Charles Schulz.
Juan Down, Who to Go?
Several conservative blackfolks are in a tizzy as to what to think
about Juan Williams. The answer is simple, this time, he's right.
The book is called 'Enough' and the buzz is that basically Williams, the NPR journalist and producer of 'Eyes on the Prize' is down with Cosby. Well I think that's lovely. On the one hand, it's good news that yet another notable figure is telling the truth about class issues among African-Americans, on the other hand it's old news. Gasp, a liberal acting Old School!
I think some conservatives are going to trip over themselves on the existentials. Williams doesn't need to be approved as a good Conservative so stop tripping about it. He simply speaks the truth, and that's admirable enough.
