Tony Blair has saved my day. Aside from the useless ground pepper of global climate change, his speech in Los Angeles is a landmark in the battle of words that must be fought here in the West necessary to prepare us for and to confront the geopolitical challenge that stands before us. It doesn't take much of a stretch for a neocon such as I am to adapt to the context of the gauntlet he throws before us:
It is in part a struggle between what I will call Reactionary Islam and Moderate, Mainstream Islam. But its implications go far wider. We are fighting a war, but not just against terrorism but about how the world should govern itself in the early 21st century, about global values.
Indeed.
The other outspoken public figure who consistently nails it with regard to understanding the global impact and repercussions of this conflict is Ayaan Hirsi Ali. I am inspired. Nevertheless, I think it is time for me finally to read 'The Satanic Verses'.
