What I think is interesting at this juncture is the extent to which African Americans are on the brink of dealing with some rather serious matters as Americans. That is to say that the benefits of our collective efforts over the past 50 years to get America right is consequently come back to demand a few things of us which most of us, some reluctantly, are doing. That is to say we are patriots and taking pride in the country we have helped shape.
So I see this as an example of a case in which many blackfolks will not automatically defend what has become of multiculturalism. Set this case next to the rejection of the idea of a 'latina Rosa Parks'.
