Wesley Snipes is about to learn the hard way that he's just a comic book hero. He and some co-conspirators have allegedly decided to bonk heads with the IRS to the tune of $12 million. Uh oh.
Actor Wesley Snipes, who starred in the "Blade" movie series, was charged with tax fraud on Tuesday in an indictment that alleges he illegally claimed refunds of almost $12 million.
A warrant has been issued for Snipes' arrest, but the actors whereabouts were unknown, Paul Perez, the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, told a news conference in Tampa.
Perez said a federal grand jury indicted Snipes, who once lived in Windermere, Florida, along with co-defendants Eddie Ray Kahn of Sorrento, Florida, and Douglas Rosile, of Venice, Florida.
Rosile has surrendered to authorities and Kahn is believed to be in Panama, Perez said.
I always liked Wesley Snipes. My gut is that he's too smart to do something dumb like this and may have been dragged into a scheme. But I would also bet that he's ballsy enough to try and do some international finagling. I mean he's not the sort of individual whose talents have been adequately recognized here in the states. I'm thinking of his more low key performances over the years, like Down In The Delta. But hey, ever since Demolition Man, he's had action star written all over him, and that's where the money is.
We all know he's a big star in Asia and I wouldn't be surprised that he could stay gone from the US a long time without too much discomfort. Maybe he'll show up in Country Two.
