Yesterday I took the kids down to Orange County. I didn't realize that Saleen has a showroom at the Irvine Spectrum. Well.. Here I am in a horrible backlight with the awesome Saleen S7, which despite all Veyron claims to the contrary, they say is the world's fastest production car. So I asked the guy some Project Gotham questions.
It turns out that they guys from Bizarre pay Saleen to have their cars in the game, and Saleen has close inspection rights to see that the car is properly represented in the game. So they approve the specs, but are just happy to get media props.
As for the real car, it goes something over 250 MPH, but nobody really knows because they haven't had enough space to test it. Saleen has about 500 employees, and they were the ones who did the assembly for the new Ford GT. Their plant is around the way somewhere near the store. There are only 10 people in the company authorized to drive the S7, which goes for something like 600 grand. They still make the Mustang and the Truck (obviously somebody is tight with Ford), but they aren't going to make the Focus any longer. They worked with the prototype of the new Camaro and may or may not do something with that in the future. I'm hoping they do. I always loved Mustangs over Camaros, but the new Camaro is absolutely awesome. Besides, there's always Shelby. They can have the Mustang as far as I'm concerned, because what Ford has done to it, despite the very tasty prototype was just horrendous.
The S281 looks very tasty in yellow. With 500 horsepower at only 45K, I like it a lot. As far as I'm concerned, it's the only Mustang worth considering. I might even do that over a Porsche, and the interior looks good enough to make me consider it over a BMW 650. I'd certainly save money. I'd hold onto it until they perfect the Camaro and then get a silver one. Really, the body of the new Camaro is that sweet.
