I haven't written anything about music on this blog in a long time. I'm in a strange kind of transitional period.
Isley Brothers
On the one hand, I have discovered a kind of personal nirvana in playing the bassline for 'For The Love of You' which I learned two weeks ago. I can literally sit for an hour and play the song over and over again until I'm in a kind of trance. The same is true with 'Atlantis'. I've done this both weekends I've been home from Arizona and it's almost not fair to my family. The groove is that deep. This is where I've been musically.
KBAQ
I have listened to nothing but classical music in my renta-car for the past two weeks. In all of that, I've only heard one new piece that makes me hunger for more. It was Stravinsky's rendition (I think) of the Eroica Trio. The rest of it has mostly been oddments and sleepy-time music with an occasional robust Copeland thrown in. I know there's got to be some Prokofiev or something I need to hear, but in all these hours I haven't heard it.
Paul Schwartz
Through the late summer I've been grooving with Paul Schwartz. Nothing new here, just more of the mellow same.
Frank McComb
Frank has three albums out that I haven't heard, two of which I didn't know existed. The first is The 1995 Bootleg. I listened to every sample available on the iTunes Music Store, and I'm going to get it first chance I get. The others are The Truth and The Truth Volume 2. Very soon, I'll be knee deep in McComb. Oh and get this, he does a cover of Stevie Wonder's 'Golden Lady'. Gotta have it.
Negro Opera
I've still been lax in finding that Negro Opera I've been hungry after. I may end up just hovering over Leontine Price or even Paul Robeson. We'll see.
Korn
I heard some unmistakable Korn the other day on the freeway. Or maybe it was somebody's cell phone. These things conspire to remind me that I haven't heard any good rock in a while.
Radiodread
Finally, the last good set of tunes I purchased was a custom CD from Hear Music. Wow, that was before Thanksgiving. It contained several tracks from a reggae band that did covers of Radiohead. Awesome stuff. Next I've got to get their Pink Floyd. The group is called the Easy Star All-Stars. Very much worth it. Check 'em out.
Oh yeah, and I've got Craig Mack on the brain this morning. I need a cure for that.
