The best talk show on the radio, by far, is the Hugh Hewitt Show. Hewitt is changing radio.
He worked as an atty for the Reagan White House, so he's intellectually as sharp as anyone ever on radio. He's like Michael Jackson with sharper elbows.
Secondly, he integrates his show with the web and blogs like nobody else. He used to be fairly big with California bloggers but he's de-emphasized them and is pitching traffic towards Townhall.com which has an annoyingly commercial look and feel, both on the web and in his pitching. However, all of his stuff is podcast and most of it is transcribed for free.
Thirdly, he gets great guests, and he's 80% fair, even with his most direct ideological foes. That's way better than you get almost anywhere else.
Finally, and most importantly, he does books and big subjects. Hewitt is probably the only radio host ever who would give one guest eight hours of coverage over a two month period to review a book section by section. In that, he has extended in depth subjects beyond every other media format. He is the inventor of the radio miniseries.
Nobody else comes close.
