Today was a big radio day for me. I got in on the call in to the Hugh Hewitt show talking about a top ten list of cool movies. Dean Barnett was so off the mark it was pathetic. Maybe we have to do another survey, but there are really a lot of cool movies to talk about.
I think I'd have to agree that the coolest movie of the past 20 years was Pulp Fiction. But there are just various genres of cool that ten movies cannot begin to handle. I mean, kung fu movies are cool, by definition. Motorcycle and car chase movies are cool. Rockstar movies are cool. Period gangster movies are cool. Caper movies are cool. There are cool cop movies and cool musicals. But a cop musical can never be cool.
So if you were listening at approximately 5:51 Pacific time, Michael from Redondo mentioned three movies, but the third got cut off. The third was Devil in a Blue Dress, which I say is a toss-up as Denzel's coolest movie, the other being Training Day. I thought Face Off was a very cool movie although I actually liked Swordfish better. Big Wednesday is the greatest surf movie of all time, and you don't get much cooler than that.
Biker Boyz was very cool, as was Fast and the Furious. Nobody mentioned The Score, which is one of the great caper movies of all time. They did get Heat, which was very cool and right around the top movies of all time as far as I'm concerned. Michael Mann is just a cool director, as is Michael Bey, as is Tony Scott, and so is Ridley of course. But you can't forget any movie with Jean Reno is going to be cool, as is any movie with Rickey Jay.
There's so much to say, I'll let y'all say some.
