I'm coining a term called The Hogwarts Effect in reference to the idea that a school's culture should be a thing of weight unto itself. School spirit and uniformity are strengths when they support the values that are central to our civilization. I don't believe that religious parochial schools necessarily have the answer, but they do use the formula properly. They understand the value of values education. I'm convinced that public schools are losing a grip on the attention of students because their cultures are undermined by pop culture, which is shallow if not degenerate.
For example, I want you to imagine a high school that could implement a 100% ban on cell phone use. Could it be done?
