So the world is rid of Alberto Gonzales thanks to the constant harassment of the bloodthirsty opposition. So this morning on the radio, we were treated to a healthy dose of finding out, in retrospect, what a lovely and brilliant man he was by his defenders.
Me? I hardly gave much attention to Gonzales, and I've never given the witch hunt against his administration any scrutiny. The 'indictment' of Gonzales never much went past 'Gonzales, bad'. At least Republicans had the decency to make crude jokes about Janet Reno. But the humorless bloodlust of the likes of Chuck Schumer in this affair is chilling, and he and his Congressional hit squad have successfully politicized the heretofore entirely boring bureaucracy of the DoJ whose career bureaucrats have been chugging along silently while their bosses boss has been decapitated for no good reason.
You would think that the checks and balances of government would be engaged for better cause than this, but it is clear to me that the while the approval level of the Congress is at 18%, this is really the best they can do. We really need a new Newt Gingrich.
