Well I actually didn't think it would happen quite so grotesquely, but it did. The editors at the LATimes completely obliterated my presence from Richard Fausset's page one piece on the black blogosphere. Instead, they focused on Wayne Field Negro Bennett and Gina McCauley. I'm the one who lives in LA. Damn!
Was it because I was black? Was it because I wasn't black enough? Maybe it was because I've been online for 15 years and these guys are new to the blogosphere. Could it be? Ahh why bother guessing? They consider Afrospear to be the voice of black diversity. From a left perspective, that could be considered true.
Anyway, I am only moderately pissed- rather like when you order two burgers at the window and only get one in the bag. But I do hope Patterico notices.
I was very satisfied with the interview the Fausset gave, and I'm certain that he got enough material from me to deal with a completely different angle of the evolution of black writing online. I got no beef with the reporter. With any luck, the editors at the LAT will extend that one piece into a second part. But now I know how poor George Kelly must feel. After all, he is all of our blogfather and he gets no props these days.
Aside from all that, I've got radio coverage from NPR. I love them and they love me, so no love from the LA Times does not leave me loveless. Still, I am kinda prominent. You'd think they'd give me a passing mention. After all, I'm not only a single blogger, but I started a blog league. Doesn't that count for anything?
While I'm ranting, I gotta say what happened to P6 and Booker Rising and others of note in the black blogosphere? I think that the LAT was mostly interested in Afrospear which is new and frothy and Jena-6 enabled. That's not even half the story.
