It had always seemed to me, having grown up watching Carl Lewis battle Linford Christie in the 100 meters, that there was something unusual about the super muscular guys who followed. Burrell, Johnson, Greene, were all fast, but they seemed to muscle their way down the track. And Michael Johnson looked like he had invented a new kind of running, unnaturally technical.
All that changed this weekend. Usian Bolt has changed the style of fast and he made it look easy.
It was one of those moments, as much as I admire the other greats of the sport, that I had to stop and think about what we've been seeing all these years. It was somewhat reminiscent of how I looked at the final failure of Mike Tyson. What kind of short heavywweight was he, when he finally got boxed into the ground? And what kind of sprinters are these who chased after Bolt? They all seemed to be too short and way too slow.
As soon as the real video is released to YouTube and everybody else, you'll be seeing this one for a while.
