Limbaugh is a rhetorical genius. Some might say an evil genius, but he's only a Conservative. People ought not take politics so seriously, well, political rhetoric anyway. As Robin Hanson said, Politics isn't about Policy. And Limbaugh's bloviation is about as far from policy creation as it gets. As to what the people believe... that's another story.
This morning, as Prager got boring on the way to work, I dialed into Rush. He was heaping it on thick. If you didn't know any better, you would believe that the Democrats are solely responsible for supporting everything that Franklin Raines did at Fannie Mae. It's not exactly true, because OFHEO under Clinton was, well.. under Clinton. The hero of that story, as I've mentioned before, was Armando Falcon - the one name that you may not hear in all the partisan spin. But it is clear that a goodly chunk of Democrats were not interested in looking at the fundamentals. If you hear the clip of Maxine Waters, it should be obvious to anyone that Democrats were all about extending programs like 100% financing.
So basically this morning, Rush Limbaugh took to the rhetorical extreme all that I was talking about last week on S190 and the defense of Raines by the CBC. I'm not sure that it's necessary, or perhaps it is to amp up the volume on parts of this tragedy people don't seem to have time to discover for themselves. I understand why Rush is dangerous and why the Democrats hate him - because he's very good at drawing unfair and unbalanced scrutiny at things people ought to be looking at. There's nobody like him on the other side of the aisle, just folks like Maher and Jon Stewart who use their brains to mock the system rather than for partisan advantage. Concurrance: The Belmont Club
