Of all the nitpicking and sniping that goes on in the name of democratic debate, few have managed to hit the nerves of the electorate as has Jerome Corsi, author of 'Obamanation'. I take the book to be a shotgun blast of factlets which are either a whiff of grapeshot or a barrage of cluster bombs, depending on your sensitivity to criticism of Barack Obama. I'm not so undecided that I would need such ammo, but I did hear something very interesting yesterday again, as the long knives come out for our Democratic Nominee.
Corsi has been declared personna non-grata and deported from Kenya having done in that country what ordinarily goes on here - biased investigative journalism. He has taken from political enemies of certain parties some evidence that Obama has supported, to the tune of a million dollars, Raila Odinga to be prime minister of that country. What I believe we have here is a class of scandal that will go nowhere without some official investigation, and no official investigation will come. That is because whether or not something untoward or illegal happened, if Obama wins, it will be suppressed and if McCain wins nobody will care. So right about now is the only time that it matters whether or not we can get to the bottom of it. And, such is the case with all of the legal matters associated with the candidates, every -gate you can imagine matters now and not later.
What is striking about this particular charge by Corsi, whom I automatically classify as a kind of author like Gary Webb, is how it flies in the face of Obama's promise to do right by a particular school in his homeland for which he hasn't spent a penny. Baldilocks is my expert on this. Something very suspicious is going on here - and while I have to be skeptical of the source, the implications are too large for that skepticism to foreclose any investigation. If Obama approved for money from Illinois to go to a political party in Kenya, that's a very very serious error. Either Corsi or Obama will go down for it.
