Some people, notably Rush Limbaugh surprising no one, have complained about Gwen Ifill's role as moderator of tonight's Vice Presidential debates. Why? Because she has a book out in January about Obama. I take this not as a rallying point but as a tell.
The Right has been complaining for years now that the media is in the tank for Obama, about liberal bias and the leftiness of the mainstream media. We have known this forever. So what? Now they are not only whining but implying that Palin can't handle it.
This, my friends, is called panic.
I happen to like Ifill. She's poised and respectful, smart and what a good reporter should be. If she's biased I can't tell it. When it comes to the Right being afraid of her, then it can only mean that they're scared for Palin. I heard the generally gracious Dennis Miller skewering Catie Couric on the radio last night. By the way, if you want to hear my attitude on most any day of the week, Dennis Miller's grown ass man is the closest approximation. I smack around the Lefties but I laugh while I'm doing it. If Miller, who admittedly snaps a bit to attention watching the picture of Palin holding her baby like 'a lioness with her cub', has to take digs at reporters, something else has fallen out of his repertoire and that is the kind of respect a White House officer should have.
My guess is that the severity of the financial crisis in the American banking system has given every one a bracing cold shower. This is exactly the kind of eventuality Conservatives have been saying that the Obamas of the world were in absolutely no shape to handle. Now we have one, who's looking Presidential? Nobody. Nobody at all.
In a world where the Vice President of the US can't handle a PBS reporter, I want to have my money in a Swiss bank.
BTW. Here's a hint to the idiots on the McCain team. Remember all those times that Obama and his wife kept bragging that 'he could have had a job on Wall Street, but instead he went to the ghetto'? See if you can spin that to your advantage, you morons.
