I've finally got to the juicy stuff in John Bolton's 'Surrender is Not an Option'. It is mind-bogglingly extraordinary how Byzantine the UN is, and when you come to understand how it operates you will shake your head in disbelief.
All I'm going to say is this. Most of us have no idea how corrupt it has been, nor any idea what gets into the sausage of UN resolutions. But I assure you that I have come to understand that much of what gets through is antithetical to the way Americans like to conduct business. I hesitate to say 'lowest common denominator' but it often applies. The entire process is so convoluted and tendential that it defies gravity. I am given to believe that the UN is something more than a post-modern hall of mirrors but not much more.
Bolton reveals the fact that better than 25% of UN procurement process for PKO (peacekeeping operations) was wasted. But the inspectors who investigated the fraud were not invited to say why the higher ups in the secretariat were not going to act on it or make that fact public.
Bolton reveals that those same investigators found charges of sexual abuse against civilians by UN bluehats. Say what? You've never heard that? Of course not. It would be too embarassing and so the UN never said anything in public about it. Until now. Which is why Bolton is hated.
