The city of Bell, California is in total chaos as massive corruption has been revealed. Well, alleged. But there is the fact that one city council member makes about 9000 a year and others make about 100,000. And the police chief makes something like 400,000 and the City Manager makes over 700,000.
Bell is a city of about 38,000 people and City Hall is in a state of seige.
Word is out and AG Brown has issued subpeonas. Today I heard on the radio that there were about six different tax levies that were passed by *ahem* election, among charges that police officers went door to door suggesting which candidates and initiatives residents should vote for. Yesterday the City Council had made threatening noises about firing the entire police department.
Bell is one of those strange little towns subsumed by the concrete metropolis that is LA County. I'm not sure, but it may be one of those towns known to local Right Radio as a Reconquista Town, which is to say a town which refuses on principle to prosecute illegal immigrants. A haven. Whatever that case may or may not be, there's Hell up in Bell tonight. You may expect analogies out the wazoo regarding tax and spend government.
