I get mail from political lists all the time. This week I'm sending something back. I'm trying to create a simple meme of civil disobedience and peaceful protest which expresses our displeasure at the way TSA is underserving the public. If you must fly, and you must follow the laws, you can still display your displeasure without saying a word. It's a simple, universally understood gesture of distaste and ridicule.
Stick out your tongue.
Do what you think you must to help this simple idea along.
Thanksgiving week is one of the biggest travel periods every year in America. If you blog about it, people will recognize. If you like it on Facebook, people will see. If you send an email to your friends, people will understand. If you tweet the message, people will respond. If you're in an airport and perform this simple protest, people will be encouraged. Americans will be behind you. We get it.
I am not proposing a solution. There are people smarter than any of us who can solve the problem, but we can all clearly see that those are not the people in charge. I am simply proposing the idea that a unified, simple gesture can become emblematic of our frustration, and that it cannot be ignored. This protest will be symbolic and it will draw attention to our dismay. In America we have time honored ways to work out solutions, but we have new ways to get attention. Let it start on the internet with this idea. Let this be our symbol. Let this be the time.
