I know, as much as just about anyone can know, that there's going to be an iPad G2 sometime this Spring. Why? Because photos and drawings and all sorts of bits and pieces of evidence keep showing up on the web. I use a variety of tools to keep me informed. It's rather awesome. Just this evening came evidence of a new iPhone. There's not much new technology involved conceptually in this regard. It's merely publish and subscribe. I subscribe to people whose judgment I find valuable, and they have their sources and methods.
The company being infiltrated in this case is Apple Computer, and I gather this will continue for the next several years as their success in the computer industry is just the gelling of a lot of old, good ideas that nobody else seems to have bothered to keep trying. Xerox used to have this kind of comprehensive vision of building hardware, software, networks, peripherals. So did DEC. And IBM used to have it, but now they don't. So Apple stands alone, making themselves a target and thereby accumulatings spies.
This serves to remind me of things more important than phones and computers whose creation and deployment is infinitely more consequential. I'm talking about military hardware. And since I have never gotten over my childhood fascination with nuclear energy and the Soviet Threat, I never quite forget that there are organized networks of intelligence organizations who also publish and subscribe. Some of it, open source.
So now I know about the J-20.
