The capital city will be Juba, and the UN is already ready. You know, you really have to laugh at how pathetic Hamas and Fatah have to be when everybody else on the planet seems to have gotten their revolutionary madness out of their bloodstream and gone on to actually build nations. It won't be long now that Sudan will enter a new chapter in nationhood when South Sudan officially becomes a state this summer.
There's a lot to consider in this split between what I essentially perceive to be Muslim Arabist Africans and more traditional tribal Africans. If Islam is anything, it offers culture above the tribal state. Granted there are much better ways for rural migrants to go than into the realm of madrassas and Islamist dreams, but those are likely to be more civilized than the alternative. After all, who in our global economy even bothers (aside from dainty anthropologists and relativist multiculturists) to take notice of the globe's few remaining indigenous tribes? At least the Islamists have a team with colors and a flag. So too will the South Sudanese who appear to be a mix of "Dinka, Nuer, Bari, Lotuko, Kuku, Zande, Mundari, Kakwa, Pojulu, Shilluk, Moru, Acholi, Madi, Lulubo, Lokoya, Toposa, Lango, Didinga, Murle, Anuak, Makaraka, Mundu, Jur, Kaliko, and others." Good luck with all that.
I do, however like the underdoggery implicit with that lumpen group. They should have plenty of room to work out their differences without interference from Khartoum. Who knows, maybe South Sudan will show something democratic we can all be proud of.
There is a lot going on in Africa.
