A popular 15-year-old student has committed suicide after he reportedly faced expulsion and being placed on the sex offenders’ register simply for streaking at a high school football game. Christian Adamek, from Huntsville, Alabama, hanged himself on October 2, a week after he was arrested for running naked across the Sparkman High football field during a game.
What I see in stories like this are the proxy off of social power of a community to the authorities. People have given away their agency because of a failure to acknowledge individual and small group judgment. We make a federal case out of everything and we perceive that the authorities are always watching and that their standards are always legitimate. They are always telling us "Don't try this at home". Those who make mistakes are therefore punished by the ever expanding numbers of laws, regulations, rules and policing power of government.
The nanny state is the police state.
The more we politick in attempts to perfect society, the more we perfect politics and weaken society. We have enough sense, we have too many laws, and we have too many intrusions. It defeats liberty and it's killing us.
