On racial unity.
Let's say you're a Thai and you love civil engineering, but you live in California and there aren't many around you. You find the best engineering school and join the Thai Civil Engineers. Now you're surrounded by people and motivated and want to prove things to the Thai community and the Civil Engineering community, and you do both. And then you run for office to become president, and guess what. You have an opponent. And everything you stand for, she stands against. And you want to do X as a priority for the Thai Engineering Community and she says X will magnify the problem, and then you disagree on what the real problem is.
You are at odds because you cannot stomach disagreement among Thais. You want unity and your organization can't produce it. You fail to appreciate the actual diversity of Thai interests and civil engineering interests. You want to build bridges, they want to build sewers. You want to talk about dikes and pumps in New Orleans, they say that's not a Thai problem.
What you have to do is find a way to be yourself, by yourself. You can't design your own friends, you have to *make* friends. No matter how sophisticated and comprehensive you think your racial theories are, they're wrong. Because if they worked, you wouldn't have to ask the question. They don't work, and they never will.
The best thing you can do is make babies. They will belong to you. And then they will become teenagers and rebel against everything you've taught them,just because they can. And you'll look back at the Thai Civil Engineers 20 years after you graduated and they're still dealing with the same problems.
Look in the mirror, face yourself. Love yourself. Build yourself. Make yourself useful. The race ain't gonna follow you, because if there was a master plan, it would be a no-brainer for you to find the master Thai Civil Engineer and you would have already been on his friends list. But you're not. There is no such list. So make peace with that. The racial unity you perceive in other people is a myth. Their unity organizations fail too. Don't believe me. Just watch.
